2015 Fancy Farm Picnic will feature a shuffling of speakers

FANCY FARM – The 135th Annual Fancy Farm Picnic will take place this Saturday in the tiny western Kentucky hamlet of 900 with a full slate of candidates for Constitutional offices scheduled to speak as well as Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear, and U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.

Fancy Farm political speaking chairman Mark Wilson says that this year’s schedule will feature a new order to the speaking list.

“It seemed like to me the Ag Commissioner, the Treasurer and the Auditor are always at the very end,” Wilson said. “We decided to take the lower five Constitutional officers, put their offices in a hat and draw for the order.”

The committee has gotten good feedback on the change and Wilson says that will be the process for future events.

Wilson admits that his job is year round as he looks at ways to fine tune and improve the political speaking part of the event.

“Saturday, August 1, I will be networking, I’ll be scouting out because I’m looking ahead to next year for the offices where there’s going to be campaigns,” Wilson said.
