Bud Dupree is grabbing most of the headlines, but he won’t be the only Wildcat waiting to hear his name called in Chicago at the NFL Draft this week.
The draft kicks off at 8 p.m. ET on Thursday night in The Windy City, and former University of Kentucky defensive end Za’Darius Smith may be sneaking his way into a Day 1 pick.
Sports Illustrated recently named Smith to its “All-Underrated Team” for the 2015 draft, with other projections listing Smith going as early as the late second round and as late as the fourth or fifth.
Smith played in all 24 games while at UK after transferring from East Mississippi Community College, totaling 61 tackles and 4.5 sacks last season and receiving Defensive MVP honors at this year’s East-West Shrine Game in St. Petersburg, Florida, featuring the top collegiate players in the nation.
Fellow former Wildcat teammates Braylon Heard (running back) and Darrian Miller (offensive lineman) also have their names in the draft, with both expected to be late-round picks over the weekend.
With only a few hours remaining until Roger Goodell takes the stage, how high will the former Cats climb?
Should Za’Darius be prepared to hear his called late Thursday night, and could he become a a dominant defensive player in the NFL?
What roles can Heard and Miller carve out in the league?
