Would you pay $20,000 to golf and dine with Coach Cal?

Have an extra $20,000 lying around?

I mean, who doesn’t, am I right?

That’s all it would cost you and two friends to spend two days golfing and dining with John Calipari and other members of college basketball’s coaching elite.

But despite the high price tag, it’s all for a great cause.

Oakland head coach Greg Kampe announce on Monday morning that he will team up with Calipari and 8 other college coaching headliners to launch a fundraiser aimed at generating more than $500,000 for cancer research.

The coaching lineup includes Kentucky’s Calipari, North Carolina’s Roy Williams, Michigan State’s Tom Izzo, Arizona’s Sean Miller, Michigan’s John Beilein, West Virginia’s Bob Huggins, UCLA’s Steve Alford, Tennessee’s Rick Barnes and Memphis’ Josh Pastner.

To raise the money, Kampe and co. will auction off the opportunity for 10 people to spend two days golfing and dining with the coaching celebrities. Bidding starts at a cool $10,000 each and is open from now until May 1st.

Each winning bidder gets to bring two of his/her friends along for the ride and even has the option to “buy now,” which caps the bidding for each coach at $60,000.

So, for example, if three members of Big Blue Nation want to join up to buy a two-day vacation with Coach Cal, they can … at the bargain price of $20,000 a person.

Therefore, if every coach’s bid gets maxed out at $60,000, the fundraiser would raise a maximum of $600,000.
