Why Matt Elam SHOULD choose Kentucky...

5 star defensive tackle, the #3 overall DT in the country (according to 24/7 sports) and basically the top recruit in the state of Kentucky is making his college decision on Thursday at noon.
He will be deciding between Alabama and Kentucky. Two schools that are the first that come to mind when talking about their sport, the problem is the University of Kentucky is NOT known for football like Alabama, yet. The job that Mark Stoops has done in his short tenure at the University of Kentucky is nothing short of amazing. The recruiting class of 2014 is set to finish ranked as the highest ever class in the history of Kentucky football. The funniest part about this is the class of 2015 might be rated even higher! Set to finish in the top 25 (24/7 sports) and maybe even the top 15 depending on the last few days of high school signings.
This seems like it should be a easy choice for a high school kid, because Alabama is….well come on it’s ALABAMA football! This only solidifies the culture change Mark Stoops and his staff has brought to the Kentucky football program. If you know anything about college football or have paid any attention to the news you would know that Alabama has dominated college football recruiting the last few years, and this is just another story of the school going into another state and taking one of the state’s best players and bringing them to Tuscaloosa. The fact that a highly touted recruit’s final two schools are ALABAMA and Kentucky, for football, is amazing!
So Matt Elam, if you happen to come across this post, I would say only one thing to you…do you want to go to a school where you will probably win, but never see significant playing time for 3 years (after red-shirting)?? Or do you want to go to a school where the culture is taking a drastic change, where the fans are just as crazy about their boys of the gridiron as their team on hardwood, where you will be a superstar from the moment you step on campus, where you will play from day 1 and where you can help build a program into national prominence?
If I am Matt Elam, and this is obviously a hypothetical, but I would say the smarter person/player would choose Kentucky. I am not a ginormous human, QB sacking, hole clogging, machine like Matt Elam, but I am a sports fan. The player that gets the most love on national TV is the player that is one of the superstars on a team, not a player on a superstar team. (i.e. Jadeveon Clowney)
So Matt, after reading this I would hope that you were already going to choose Mark Stoops and the University of Kentucky and that this article just helped solidify your decision. Good luck with whatever you decide (as long as it’s not Alabama) and Go Cats!
