Team USA jumped out to a quick 10-0 lead on Italy today and looked ready to put the game on cruise control but somebody forgot to tell the Italians. Italy put together a quick 15-3 run of their own which saw Coach Cal’s squad trail for the first time in Egypt.

The Americans took a 14 point lead into halftime on the back of PJ Washington’s 11 first half points. Team USA came out much more focused in the 3rd quarter outscoring Italy 20-6 and cruising to the 98-65 victory.

For the game, Washington lead all scorers with 20 points. Hamidou Diallo struggled with his jumper finishing just 2 of 8 from the field and 5 points. UK recruits Cameron Reddish finished with 15 points, including 3-4 from beyond the arc and Immanuel Quickley had a team high 6 assists to go along with his 5 points and 2 rebounds.

With the win, Team USA finishes Group play with a 3-0 record. They now move into bracket play as one of the top 4 seeds and will face Mali, who finished Group play with an 0-3 record, on Wednesday. Bracket play continues this week until the championship game on Sunday, July 9th.

Clayton Abernathy and Bradley McKee recap the game.
