LEXINGTON — The University of Kentucky football team started the 2015 season with a “boom” on Saturday night with a 40-33 opening victory against Louisiana Lafayette at a newly renovated Commonwealth Stadium.
The Wildcats entertained a sellout crowd of 62,933 fans — their first sellout since 2010 — by jumping out to a 21-0 lead in the first half, including an 75-yard touchdown jaunt by sophomore running back Stanley “Boom” Williams on Kentucky’s first offensive play.
UL-Lafayette made a rajin’ comeback after halftime to tie the score at 33-33 with 7:36 left in regulation, but a 12-yard rumble and score from sophomore running back Mikel Horton in the final minute pushed UK back on top to secure a 1-0 start to the year.
