When you talk about UK Athletics, most people think of it as a basketball school, but track and field is starting to make some serious noise too.
After last week’s preliminary round, the Wildcats will be sending 16 entries to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Oregon on Saturday. 13 from the women’s team and three from the men’s.
Two standouts to watch will be Kendra Harrison and Keilah Tyson.
Harrison qualifed in both the 100 and 400 meter hurdles and she is the current NCAA record holder in the 100.
Tyson also ran personal records in the 100 and 200 meter dashes at preliminaries, good enough to earn the East Region’s top qualifying spot in both events. She’ll also be competing in the 4-by-100-meter relay in Oregon.
Head coach Edrick Floreal has both teams clicking at the right time, especially the women, who are currently ranked a school-record third in the nation.
