UK opens its exhibition season Wednesday night against Transylvania in a game Transylvania is billing as ‘The Battle on Broadway.’ The Cats and Pioneers haven’t played in 100 years, and the series is actually tied at 7 apiece. Several of UK’s star freshmen spoke with the media the day before the game. Forward Michael Kidd-Gilchrist says his game is improving every day, and he has Darius Miller to thank for it.
Point guard Marquis Teague says he’s become a lot stronger at being a leader on the hardwood, and feels Coach Calipari has been especially demanding when it comes to his performance on the floor.
Forward Kyle Wiltjer sported a nice shiner during the press conference, saying one of his players was responsible for his injury during the Blue/White scrimmage. But, he says he holds no grudges, and almost displays it with pride. He spoke about the merits of dribble drive versus pick and roll.
Cal had plenty of praise for his star-studded freshman class during a meeting with reporters, calling Wiltjer is a “really good player” who has “great feel” for the game.
