UK Hoops knocks off #8 Baylor at Rupp Arena
11/17/2014 11:42 PM
Matthew Mitchell’s UK Hoops program has proven itself to be relentless, if nothing else, during his time at UK and the trademark of the women’s basketball team proved again to be too much for the Baylor Bears as Kentucky scored a win over Kim Mulkey’s team for the second-consecutive year.
The Cats found themselves down 10 at the half, 34-24, but turned it on after the break thanks to senior guard Jennifer O’Neill, who scored a school-record 43 points in last year’s matchup between the two teams. O’Neill scored 18 of her 22 points in the second half, including a three pointer – her only make on 11 attempts – with 1:17 left to give UK a four-point lead and essentially seal the game.
Sophomore Makayla Epps added 12 points and 8 rebounds, while Linnae Harper added 11 points and 6 boards. UK’s pressure defense forced Baylor to commit 24 turnovers.
Be sure to watch KSTV on Tuesday for a full recap of the game and to hear from Matthew Mitchell and his team.
