UK Hoops | Kentucky beats Alabama in Quarterfinal of SEC Tournament

03/03/2017 04:52 PM

Behind another big performance from Evelyn Akhator down low, the No. 4 seed Kentucky women’s basketball team beat No. 12 Alabama 65-55 in the quarterfinals of the SEC tournament.

Akhator had 23 points and nine rebounds to lead the way for the Wildcats, who have now advanced to the SEC semifinals for the eighth straight season.

Kentucky went into the half with a 32-26 lead. They would use a 10-3 lead in the third quarter to distance themselves from the Tide. Makayla Epps added 12 points and five rebounds, while Alyssa Rice and Maci Morris added 11 points apiece.

Kentucky forced Alabama to commit 18 turnovers while holding them to only 39% shooting from the floor.

Kentucky faces the top seeded South Carolina Gamecocks in the semifinals tomorrow at 5 pm ET. The Wildcats lost to the Gamecocks in both meetings during the regular season. If Kentucky wins, they will be back in the SEC championship game for the first time since 2014.
