UK Hoops Falls To South Carolina

UK Hoops had a great run. Seventeen straight wins after the beat down at Baylor in mid-November. But all good things come to an end. South Carolina upset Kentucky 55-50 on the Gamecocks home court.

The Wildcats brought the second-best offense into Colonial Life Arena, but they ran straight into the best defense. South Carolina allows an average of 48 points. Despite that, UK Hoops had the lead for most of the second half until South Carolina went on an 18-4 run.

That left the Wildcats trailing 52-44 with 3:34 left. Then the nerves started to get to the Wildcats. With 20 seconds left in the game and only down by two, sophomore point guard Jennifer O’Neill and junior forward Samarie Walker turned the ball over on two consecutive possessions. Senior guard A’dia Mathies missed a three-pointer as time expired.
