UK Gets Back On Track, Pounds Samford 88-56

John Calipari got started on a new home winning streak Tuesday night as his UK basketball team snapped a two-game losing streak, beating Samford 88-56.

In the first half, things seem to finally be clicking for a UK team that has looked out of sorts throughout the season. The Cats raced to a 45-14 lead thanks to an offense that looked to have more energy and assertiveness, as well as the most aggressive team defense they’ve shown all season.

But in the second half, some of the same issues started to creep back in the picture as Samford came out unfazed by the halftime deficit and scored 42 points. After the game, Calipari said he’s concerned with his team’s conditioning at the moment and that they’d figure that out over the next several weeks.

Six Cats scored in double digits against the Bulldogs, with Archie Goodwin leading the way with 18. Alex Poythress added 16 points and 8 rebounds while Willie Cauley-Stein notched his first double-double off the bench with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
