UK FOOTBALL | Towles turns off social media to block outside noise

LEXINGTON — Haters gonna hate. Quarterbacks gonna block — at least on social media.
Kentucky quarterback Patrick Towles took a lot of heat online after a disappointing performance in the Wildcats’ 14-9 loss to Florida on Saturday.
The redshirt junior completed a meager 8-24 of his passing attempts — a 33% clip that marked a new career low — while also throwing two interceptions and no touchdowns for the second straight game.
With another tough matchup on the schedule this weekend against No. 25 Missouri, Towles has decided to deactivate all his social media accounts to block outside noise and focus on improvement.
- “There was a lot of noise, obviously,” Towles said after Wednesday night’s practice, “and I’m sure there still is a ton of noise. You just gotta have a couple people that you listen to and don’t listen to anyone else. Twitter, Instagram, Facebook … it’s all off my phone. I don’t need it, good and bad stuff. It’s all noise.”
Missouri will bring to Lexington the No. 5 scoring defense in the nation on Saturday after allowing only 9.7 points per game through three weeks — albeit against Southeast Missouri State, Arkansas State, and UConn.
KSTV discussed Towles’ struggles through the first three weeks of the season on Wednesday’s show, explaining why leaving social media is a good step in the right direction:
