UK FOOTBALL | Fair for Kentucky to be an underdog to Auburn?

LEXINGTON — Better record + better statistics + home field = underdog?
The Kentucky Wildcats (4-1, 2-1 SEC) have a huge midweek showdown with the Auburn Tigers (3-2, 0-2 SEC) on Thursday — the first Thursday night home game in program history — and oddsmakers currently like the Tigers as 2-point favorites on the road.
Despite posting a better overall record, conference record, scoring average, yards per game average, scoring defense, and turnover margin than Auburn through the first five games of the season, Kentucky still lacks the name cachet the Tigers posses.
UK head coach Mark Stoops said during his weekly press conference on Monday the Wildcats have brought and extra level of enthusiasm to the practice field in preparation for making a primetime statement on Thursday night in front of a national audience, but Stoops warns the players to remain focused and not drown in the wave of excitement surrounding the game.
“I think there is a focus and an energy,” Stoops said to the media members in attendance at Commonwealth Stadium. “We need to be consistent in our approach. I haven’t seen anything above and beyond, and quite honestly, I don’t want it to be that way. I want to see a good workman’s like approach all the time with that energy and enthusiasm and I have seen that.”
