LEXINGTON — It’s hard to complain about Kentucky’s 2-1 start to the 2015 football season.

Wins in the home opener against Louisiana Lafayette and on the road against South Carolina were both impressive, but it could have been sweeter as the Wildcats were just one touchdown away from finally getting the gator off their backs against Florida and starting a perfect 3-0.

Head coach Mark Stoops admits it took the team a few days to get over the disappointing 14-9 loss to Florida, but the players have since moved on to their Saturday matchup against No. 25 Missouri, knowing all their season goals are still within reach.

  • “On Monday, guys were disappointed,” Stoops told the media members at his Thursday press conference, “but that’s to be expected. They went out Monday, had good practice, and really picked it back up Tuesday to have a normal week. So, we didn’t have to spend too much time on it. Our guys know there’s so much football ahead. Win or lose, there’s a ton of football left, and we’re just anxious to get back out there for another opportunity.

Stoops also addressed comments offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson made earlier in the week, claiming the UK players were too “uptight” for the Florida game and need to “care less” in order to play better.

  • “It’s always a fine line,” Stoops said. “I know our guys care. I don’t have to talk about motivation all the time. So, with me being a defensive guy, I never have to push the offense. That’s a fine line that they need to find. Each player needs to find that. I know our guys practice hard, I know they care, and I know they’re amped up to go play.”
