UK Coach Joker Phillips on the Victory Against Ole Miss

Joker Phillips is trying to keep his team grounded after the Cats landed their first SEC win of the season against Mississippi on Saturday. UK still needs two more wins to be bowl eligible, and step one in that process comes Saturday on the road at Vanderbilt. Joker says Vanderbilt is a very tough team and will pose quite a challenge for his Cats.

Joker also says he’s quite proud of the way freshman Max Smith is handling his role as quarterback for the team. Smith completed 19 of 36 passes for 283 yards and two touchdowns in the win over Ole Miss. His 283 passing yards is the most ever in one game for a Kentucky true freshman quarterback.

A bowl game seemed like a pipe dream a month ago, but now that the Cats have put themselves in position, Phillips wants to seize the opportunity.

After Vanderbilt, UK will play Georgia before finishing up the season at home with arch-rival Tennessee on Senior Day.
