UK BASKETBALL | Wildcats eager to play first exhibition vs. Ottawa
10/30/2015 05:28 PM
LEXINGTON — Basketball season is just around the corner, and the Kentucky Wildcats play their first exhibition of 2015-16 on Monday against Ottawa University at Rupp Arena.
It will be UK’s first competitive game since last season’s surprise loss to Wisconsin in the Final Four, and the Wildcats are eager to finally test themselves against another team.
- “It’s about that time,” assistant coach John Robic said at Kentucky’s Friday press conference. “It will be good for us as coaches to see the entire team on one bench and to see the flow of the game — substitutions, who’s playing well with whom, as opposed to just really going after each other every day in practice.”
- “Really excited to play someone that’s not us,” junior college transfer Mychal Mulder said. “We’re pretty used to playing each other, and we know what we all do well and don’t do well.”
Apart from themselves against a different opponent, Monday’s exhibition will also give the Wildcats a chance to check their offseason training and conditioning in a real game environment.
- “It’s the beginning of the year, and we have a long ways to go,” junior forward Marcus Lee said. “Some people have to get new wind from not just practice wind but also game wind because they are two different things, and you just have to figure out how to get through it.”
Kentucky and Ottawa tip off at 7:00 p.m. ET at Rupp Arena.
