UK BASKETBALL | UK vs. Mississippi State Game Recap

Tuesday night the Kentucky Wildcats men’s basketball team (15-5, 5-3 SEC) defeated the Mississippi State Bulldogs (14-6, 2-5 SEC) 78-65 in Rupp Arena. The Wildcats are now tied for third in the SEC with Tennessee and Alabama at a 1.5 games back.

Freshman forward P.J. Washington had a career-high scoring night for the Cats, scoring 22 points, six rebounds, two assists, two blocks and three steals in 31 minutes of play.

Freshman forward Kevin Knox also had a good night, adding 19 points and going a perfect 4-4 from three-point range. He also notched six rebounds, an assist, and two steals.

Freshman guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was the third Wildcat to manage double-figure scoring, adding 16 points, four rebounds and six assists in 35 minutes.

The Cats had 11 turnovers, which Mississippi State was able to capitalize on for 18 points, but UK out-rebounded State by 10.

Mississippi State had two player to get into double-digit scoring, but Kentucky held them to 38.8% shooting.

In the post-game press conference, Head Coach John Calipari said his team’s ability to finish a game came from them making their free throws; Kentucky was 77% from the line.

The Cats are back in action Saturday, Jan. 27 on the road at West Virginia in the SEC-BIG12 Challenge. That will mark their second-straight College GameDay appearance. That game will tip off at 7:00 p.m. eastern and air on ESPN. That game will be Kentucky’s final regular-season non-conference game of the year.
