LEXINGTON — The Kentucky Wildcats already have secured the No. 1 recruiting class for 2016, so why not now go after the No. 1 prospect of 2017?
DeAndre Ayton, the No. 1 player in the 2017 recruiting class, according to Scout.com, has trimmed down his list of suitors to three schools, and UK made the cut.
- “Kentucky is in my top three, to be honest,” Ayton said between games at the Bluegrass Showcase in Lexington on Saturday. “They are very high in my top three — very high. I just love their history, the coaches and the players.”
The 6-foot-10, 220-pound star from Phoenix, Ariz., added that part of the appeal of playing in Lexington is head coach John Calipari’s proven success at preparing and sending talented big men to the NBA.
- “The past players they had — it just really caught my attention,” Ayton said. “DeMarcus Cousins and Anthony Davis are some of the best bigs in the league right now.”
Scout.com director of basketball recruiting Evan Daniels joined KSTV on Wednesday’s show to discuss the odds of Ayton playing at Kentucky along with updating the other top prospects the Cats are targeting:
