LEXINGTON — Sometimes forgotten while playing behind a host of NBA draft picks last season, junior forward Marcus Lee has stepped into the spotlight for the Kentucky Wildcats in 2015-16, showing a new sense of confidence on the basketball court.
- “He’s more confident,” UK head coach John Calipari said of Lee after No. 4 Kentucky’s 72-58 victory over Arizona State on Saturday. “There’s nothing that I say that rattles him or Alex. Like, I’m on those two as much as I’m on the other guys, but they look at me and they say, ‘I’ve got you,’ and it has no effect what I say.”
With starter Alex Poythress stuck in the locker room with what ended up being a mild hyper-extended knee injury, Marcus played heavy minutes for the Wildcats against Arizona State, answering the call with a season-high 14 points, seven rebounds, and career-high five blocked shots to help UK to a 72-58 victory.
- “It’s great knowing that I have such a big impact on my team,” Lee said after the game, “vocally and on the court — which is a great thing.”
In a year when many pundits are criticizing Kentucky’s frontcourt for a lack of physical play, KSTV discussed on Monday’s show how important a confident Lee is to the 2015-16 Wildcats:
