UK BASKETBALL | Knox Named Naismith Player of the Week

01/30/2018 10:50 AM

Kevin Knox’s career night against West Virginia was enough to earn the Citizen Naismith National Player of the Week award on Tuesday.

Knox tallied 34 points as the Wildcats rallied from a 17 point deficit in the second half Saturday night in Morgantown to beat the Mountaineers. The 34 points against West Virginia marked the first time a UK player scored 30 or more points this season and the first since De’Aaron Fox had 39 in a win over UCLA in the Sweet 16 in the 2017 NCAA Tournament. The 34 points also tied Malik Monk’s freshman school scoring record on the road (Monk scored 34 at Ole Miss to open SEC play a season ago).

Knox’s big night against WVU, combined with his 19 point effort against Mississippi State last Tuesday, was enough to also earn SEC Freshman of the Week honors. Kevin is the third Wildcat to earn the SEC honor this season joining Hamidou Diallo and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
