LEXINGTON — No. 1 recruiting class. No. 1 preseason ranking. No. 1 alumni team.

Former players from Kentucky and North Carolina renewed their basketball rivalry in a charity alumni game on Sunday with the Wildcat squad winning 122-115 at a sold out Rupp Arena.

Sacramento King DeMarcus Cousins led Team Kentucky with 33 points, 18 rebounds, six assists, and 5-9 shooting from three point-range. Golden State Warrior Harrison Barnes posted a game-high 39 points and eight rebounds to lead the Tar Heel team.

The exhibition included a total of 13 NBA draft picks, five lottery picks, and all seven of Kentucky’s 2014-15 players who will be rookies in the NBA this season.

But despite all the fun and baskets scored on the court, the real winner of the night was charity as both teams combined to raise more than $1.5 million dollars for various organizations.

Kentucky head coach John Calipari, fresh off his weekend enshrinement into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, was in also in attendance. But Coach Cal conceded his usual coaching duties to former Wildcat and current New Orleans Pelican Anthony Davis with Cousins also participating as a player/coach for the UK squad.

The event was a success for both teams, and plans may be in the works for rematch next year at North Carolina.
