The Wildcats offense left a little to be desired tonight as the missed numerous gimmes and layups to start their game tonight against the Seawolves of Stony Brook. But, luckily for Big Blue Nation, the UK defensive intensity was on point.
Tied with Stony Brook at 10 apiece, Kentucky closed the first half out with a 23-9 run and never looked back as they cruised to a 85-57 victory and a 2nd round matchup against rival Indiana.
Despite being denied at the rim several times by Stony Brook big man Jameel Warney, Skal Labisierre finished with 12 points, 4 rebounds and 5 blocks. Skal and the UK front line battled throughout limiting Stony Brook to just 19 first half points, and keeping Warney in check, as the Seawolves shot a measly 16% from the field
Jamal Murray overcame a slow start, 4 first half points, to finish with 19 points and moving into 10th place on UK’s all time single season scoring list.
Tyler Ulis also had a record-setting night tallying 10 points and 7 assists moving ahead of John Wall into first place on the UK single season assist leaders. Ulis now has 243 assists in 34 games. Wall had 241 in 37 games.
Isaiah Briscoe was a workhorse for UK tonight as the freshman guard had a double double tonight with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
With the win UK advances to the Round of 32 and a Saturday matchup against IU. The last time the Wildcats and Hoosiers locked up was in the 2012 NCAA Tournament as UK bounced IU 102-90. Game time will be announced on Friday
