UK Basketball | Defense, Murray prove too much for Georgia as Cats win 2nd straight

If defense wins championships then Rupp will be making room for more decorations if Kentucky keeps this up.
In a defensive performance that would make Danny Trevathan proud, UK held Georgia to an abysmal 22% shooting from the field as they crushed the Dawgs 82-48 at Rupp.
This was by no means a perfect game for Kentucky (19-6, 9-3) as they struggled a bit themselves early to make baskets. UK went nearly 6 minutes without a point before closing out the 1st half on a 16-4 run. The Cats held Georgia without a field goal for nearly 20 minutes total before a layup at the 15:40 mark of the second half ended Georgia’s drought.
For the second straight game Jamal Murray was nearly unstoppable. The freshman guard finished with 24 points, including 6-10 from beyond the arc. Tyler Ulis chipped in 14 pts and 8 assists as he and Murray nearly outscored the Bulldogs themselves.
The status of senior Alex Poythress is still up in the air. He did not play for the second straight game due to a “knee issue”. His timeline for return is now 2 weeks, according to Coach Cal.
Now that UK has taken care of business at home they hit the road for a showdown with South Carolina who are in 3rd place in the SEC, 1/2 game behind Kentucky.
