Some late game turnovers had Big Blue Nation on the edge of their seats Tuesday night but Texas AM wasn’t able to turn them into points as UK squeaked by the Aggies.

Kentucky was only able to muster 2 field goals in the final 4 minutes of the game but their 9 made free throws proved to be the difference maker as UK improved to 3-1 in SEC Play. UK finished the game 22-34 from the charity stripe. Hamidou Diallo paced the Cats with 18 points, including 14 in the second half.

UK, which trailed for most of the second half, finally took the lead at the 2:28 mark thanks to a steal by PJ Washington and layup by Kevin Knox to give the Cats a 69-67 lead which they would never relinquish.

Washington proved to be UK’s only consistent inside scoring threat as he tallied 16 points and 4 rebounds. Sacha Killeya-Jones and Nick Richards combined for just 6 total points.

Kentucky played the game without starting PG Quade Green who was nursing a strained back. Green is expected to be back for UK’s game this Saturday at Vanderbilt. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who started in place of the injured Green, continued to impress finishing with 16 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists.

Kentucky heads to Nashville this Saturday to face Vandy then will travel to South Carolina next Tuesday to take on the Gamecocks.

UK returns to Rupp Arena on Saturday, January 20th for a showdown with the Florida Gators. A matchup that will be featured on ESPN’s College Gameday.
