UK BASKETBALL | Cats and Aggies need OT to Decide SEC Tournament Title

03/13/2016 03:33 PM

The last time the Wildcats and the Aggies faced off it came down, in part, to a controversial technical foul on Isaac Humphries as UK lost in overtime to Texas A&M back on February 21.

Three weeks later, not much has changed between these two. Once again, the top two teams in the Southeastern Conference needed overtime to decide a winner.

TAMU’s Danuel House knocked in a game high 32 points and the Aggies again controlled the glass against Kentucky, grabbing 17 offensive boards while out-rebounding the Cats, 40-34. Defensively, Texas A&M locked down Jamal Murray and forced UK to beat them without their leading scorer – a challenge Tyler Ulis and company were up for.

Ulis scored a career high 30 points and UK once again had 5 players reach double figures as Kentucky claimed their 29th Tournament Title. Derek Willis added 10 points and Murray finished with 17 including back to back 3 pointers from the pair that sealed the overtime victory.

With the win, UK will pick up the automatic bid to next week’s NCAA Tournament. Texas A&M is expected to receive an at-large bid while a couple of other SEC teams, South Carolina and Vanderbilt, will have to wait until the tournament brackets are released later this afternoon.
