UK Baseball | Mingione makes his players earn every piece of equipment

02/07/2017 08:37 PM

New UK baseball coach Nick Mingione has worked this offseason to change the culture inside the program.

Mingione wanted to make it very clear to his players that nothing will be handed to them, that everything must be earned.

That’s why in the fall he took away all his player’s gear that said “Kentucky baseball” on it and replaced it with a plain black t-shirt and a plain blue hat. The players would spend the rest of the fall earning back every hat, shirt, glove and other piece of equipment that had the UK logo on it. The cool part? Mingione wore that same plain blue hat and black shirt until the final player earned their final piece of UK gear.
