UK baseball collects numerous SEC honors

The UK baseball team enjoyed one of the best seasons in program history and received some individual recognition for their successful year Monday afteroon.

Head coach Nick Mingione, in his first season at Kentucky, was named SEC Coach of the Year. Mingione led the Cats to a third-place regulars season finish in the conference and the team won 38 games, the most since 2012.

Kentucky’s other honorees:

  • Sean Hjelle was named SEC Pitcher of the Year after going 7-1 with a 1.90 ERA in SEC games. He was 9-2 overall.
  • Zach Logue was named SEC Scholar-Athlete of the year. Logue was 6-5 and carries a 3.96 GPA in chemical engineering
  • Hjelle, Logan Salow and Tristan Pompey earned First Team All-SEC honors
  • Catcher Troy Squires, first baseman Evan White and second baseman Riley Mahan were named to the Second Team All-SEC
  • White was also on the SEC All-Defensive Team
