UK baseball coach Gary Henderson reflects on A.J. Reed's career

As the defeated Cats walked off the field at Jim Patterson Stadium Sunday night, it was likely the last time A.J. Reed will be seen in his UK uniform. The star slugger and pitcher will soon here his named called in the MLB draft, and then he’ll be headed for the pros.

Reed had a memorable, even legendary junior year at UK. He led the NCAA with 23 home runs, the SEC with 73 RBI and hit a stellar .336 at the plate. On the mound, he went 12-2 with a 2.09 ERA and struck out 71 batters.

It will hurt the UK baseball program to lose a player of Reed’s stature, but it’s just the nature of the game. After the disappointing loss to UofL, UK head coach Gary Henderson reflected on his time spent with A.J. Reed.
