LEXINGTON — Wildcats weren’t the only ones taking home hardware at UK Athletics’ 2015 CATSPY Awards on Monday night at Memorial Coliseum.

Men’s basketball head coach John Calipari presented the “Lifetime Achievement Award” to Southeastern Conference Commissioner Mike Slive for promoting the success of both athletics and academics for the University of Kentucky’s more than 500 student-athletes.

Slive has served as the SEC’s commissioner since 2002 and has announced he will retire from his post on July 31st of this year.

During his 13-year tenure as its commissioner, the Southeastern Conference has won 80 national championships, expanded membership, and solidified itself as the premier athletic league in the country.

Calipari said he was honored to present the award to Slive, crediting him for opening the door to return to collegiate coaching at the University of Memphis after being fired as the head coach of the New Jersey Nets in 2000.

The Tigers were members of Conference USA at the time, and Slive was the league’s commissioner.
