LEXINGTON — John Calipari is still putting the finishing touches on the roster for the 2015-16 season, but UK fans learned today who the team will be facing in the non-conference portion of the schedule, and when those games will be.
The Wildcats’ 13-game slate features 10 games against teams who advanced to the postseason a season ago, including reigning national champion Duke in the third game of the season at the Champions Classic in Chicago on Nov. 17.
In total, the Kentucky will face six NCAA Tournament teams, two NIT squads, two teams that reached the quarterfinals of the CollegeInsider.com Tournament, and five teams who finished the season ranked in the RPI top 50.
“Putting a schedule together, especially one like this, is fun,” head coach John Calipari said. “Having to play those games is a different story. To understate it, this will obviously be a challenging schedule for a young team like ours, which lost more than 85 percent of its scoring and nearly 80 percent of its rebounding. We’re excited for the challenge.”
In addition to Duke, it’s a who’s-who list of the marquee names in college basketball, including Kansas, Ohio State, UCLA, and the Wildcats annual rivalry with the Cardinals of Louisville — this year on home hardwood at Rupp Arena the day after Christmas
The schedule is also a roadtrip dream for Big Blue Nation.
Kentucky will make stops at NBA venues at the United Center in Chicago (Bulls), Barclays Center in Brooklyn (Nets), and American Airlines Arena in Miami (Heat), not to mention visiting Kansas’ historic Allen Fieldhouse and a first-even meeting against the Bruins in Pauley Pavilion.
