UConn proves too much as UK falls in title game

For the first and only time in the 2014 NCAA Tournament, UK did not walk off the floor as winners. The Cats fell 60-54 to Connecticut in the national championship game.

Free throw shooting plagued the young team, who went 13-24 from the charity stripe, including many down the stretch. Meanwhile, the Huskies were a perfect 10-10 on freebies.

James Young led the Cats with with 20 points and 7 rebounds. Julius Randle was the only other UK player in double digits as he chipped in 10.

Kentucky got within one possession multiple times, but could never take the lead down the stretch.

With the loss, many in Big Blue Nation will now turn their focus to next season, and who will remain off of this team. Those decisions likely won’t be made tonight, but the future roster could be determined in the coming days. Even though the Cats couldn’t pull of the win, a national runner-up season is still a success.
