Mark Stoops received the best birthday present a college coach could ask for. A commitment from a key recruit. After a 30-minute delay and much talking from his high school football coach, three-star wide receiver T.V. Williams committed to the Cats tonight.
According to Rivals’s Rob Cassidy, Williams called UK “a wide receiver’s dream” after his commitment.
Williams is a small, speedy receiver. He’s 5’8” and not even 150 lbs, but at The Opening event sponsored by Nike, Williams was one of the fastest high school players in attendance. Out of 162 players, the newest Wildcat ran the second-fastest 20-yard shuttle time, clocking in at 3.83 seconds. Williams also ran the 40-yard dash in 4.58 seconds.
Williams becomes the second wide-receiver in Kentucky’s 2014 recruiting class (Thaddeus Snodgrass was the first). These two will be able to immediately contribute to offensive coordinator Neal Brown’s air raid offense, because the Cats are thin at receiver.
According to Justin Rowland of Rivals, Williams will be play slot receiver and has big-play ability, especially with his speed. Williams will have to put on some weight before the SEC schedule gets in full swing, or he may be prone to injury with the big boys on the defensive lines of the Alabama’s and Florida’s of the conference. That is if they can catch him.
