Often overlooked when playing alongside triple-namers Willie Cauley-Stein and Karl-Anthony Towns, freshman Trey Lyles was the star of Kentucky’s 74-56 win at Mississippi State on Wednesday night.
Lyles scored a game-high and career-high 18 points — 13 of which came in the first half when the game was still close — to go along with 6 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal, and 1 block.
The stat-stuffing performance gave us a glimpse of the player Lyles can become, and coach John Calipari said Trey will be UK’s X-factor come tournament time.
KSTV’s Thomas Beisner and Bradley McKee discussed the importance of Trey Lyles and the big role he plays on this year’s team.
