Joker Phillips’ final season as UK’s head football coach ended in an all too familiar way Saturday when the Cats where pounded by Tennessee, 37-17, in Knoxville. The loss left UK without a conference win this season and with a 2-10 overall record, leaving Phillips with a 13-24 (4-20) three-year mark.
Freshman quarterback Jalen Whitlow put together what was maybe his best performance of the year, going 29-45 for 225 yards and a touchdown, while Jonathan George and Raymond Sanders combined for 113 yards and another score. But Tennessee quarterback Tyler Bray lit up UK’s secondary for four touchdown passes, two of which came in the third quarter when the Vols extended a 20-17 lead to 34-17. The win gave Tennessee interim coach Jim Chaney his first career head coaching victory.
Stay tuned to KSTV this week as the Cats look to finalize a new head coach and change the direction of the program.
