John Calipari’s U19 team will not be playing for the gold medal in the FIBA World Cup on Sunday.

The Americans fell to Canada 99-87. Canada’s R.J. Barrett, who is the No. 1 player in the class of 2019, exploded for 38 points to lead the way for America’s neighbors to the north.

Team USA’s offense struggled to get anything going throughout the game, shooting just 39.2 percent from the floor and 58.1 percent from the free throw line. P.J. Washington scored a team-high 17 points (4-14 FG) and grabbed 11 rebounds. Hamidou Diallo had eight points on 2-11 shooting.

This is a disappointing loss for USA basketball, which was going for its third straight gold medal. The Americans will face Spain for the bronze medal tomorrow.
