MEMORY LANE — Believe it or not, before John Calipari arrived in Lexington in 2009, the University of Kentucky had never produced a No. 1 overall pick in the NBA Draft.
The highest selected Wildcat up to that time was Sam Bowie, whom the Portland Trailblazers infamously selected with the No. 2 pick in 1984 — one pick before the Chicago Bulls drafted Michael Jordan.
For this week’s Throwback Thursday, we’re going back to December 2012 when Bowie spoke with KSTV about the then pending ESPN “30-for-30” documentary “Going Big” which chronicled the 1984 draft, the leg injuries that derailed Bowie’s career, and the friendship he later developed with Jordan.
