Taking a closer look at the officiating problem in college basketball

The college basketball season came to a close Monday night when North Carolina beat Gonzaga in what was one of the ugliest national championship games the tournament has ever produced. It was sloppy, poorly officiated and produced 44 fouls between the two teams.

That game came on the heels of a season that saw officials face more criticism than any point in college basketball history. Many coaches and analysts have questioned the quality of the sport because of the inconsistency when it comes to officiating. So that leaves us with the question…does college basketball have an officiating problem?
