So Who Is Florida's New Quarterback?

09/21/2013 06:17 PM

Early in the first quarter, starting Florida quarterback Jeff Driskel threw an interception and suffered an ankle injury that kept him on the sideline of the Gators’ game against Tennessee today. Head coach Will Muschamp said after the game that Driskel will be out for the season. So Kentucky fans, let’s get to know the new quarterback who will take the field at Commonwealth next weekend.

Tyler Murphy
6’2”, 206 pounds
Red-shirt junior

Against Tennessee, Murphy completed eight of 14 passes for 134 yards and a touchdown. Murphy was also the second leading rusher for the Gators. He carried the ball 10 times for 84 yards and ran in a touchdown himself. Muschamp called Murphy the reason Florida won that game. Prior to today, Murphy appeared in only three games for Florida. He made his SEC debut against Kentucky in 2011 with no stats recorded, and last season, he lined up as wide receiver against South Carolina. Coming out of high school, Murphy was a two-star recruit, according to and had over 1,000 yards passing and rushing in his HS career.

So Kentucky coaches will basically have three and a half quarters of film on Murphy to study. But I hope they don’t miss this particular gem in the film.
