CHICAGO — Bud Dupree’s dreams came true when the Pittsburgh Steelers selected him with the 22nd pick of the NFL Draft last Thursday, and his former UK teammate Za’Darius Smith followed in his footsteps just three rounds later.

The Baltimore Ravens selected the 6-4 defensive end with the 122nd overall pick in the fourth round on Saturday in the Windy City, making him the second Wildcat selected in this year’s draft.

Smith amassed 61 tackles and 4.5 sacks last season in Lexington and should compete for playing time along Baltimore’s D-line right away, looking to strengthen the league’s eighth-ranked defense from 2014.

Despite not being drafted, several other UK players signed free agent contracts over the weekend.

Braylon Heard (RB) will be going to Tampa Bay, and Darrian Miller (OL) is heading to the Browns.

Javess Blue will join fellow former UK wide receiver Randall Cobb in Green Bay, and Ronnie Shields (TE) signed with the N-F-C champion Seattle Seahawks.

Demarco Robinson (WR, Browns), Ashley Lowery (S, Buccanners), and TraVaughn Paschal (OLB, Ravens) did not land free agent deals but have received invites to participate in team camps.
