SEC Media Days | Stephen Johnson ready to take Kentucky to the next level

07/12/2017 06:42 PM

Senior quarterback Stephen Johnson is entering the 2017 college football season as the starter for Kentucky. Johnson has focused this offseason on gaining weight and improving his accuracy. Johnson took over the starting role last season after Drew Barker went down with an injury in the third game of the season. He led Kentucky to a seven-win season that resulted in the program’s first bowl appearance since 2010. Johnson is confident that Kentucky can take the next step in the SEC this season.

“Absolutely,” Johnson said confidently when asked today if Kentucky is ready to contend in the SEC East. “Like I said, we’ve got a great, great group of guys. Tremendous talent on our team. Just guys that are really wanting to learn a whole lot more when it comes those freshmen guys and guys that are picking it up more with the leadership roles.”

Johnson threw for 2,037 yards and 13 touchdowns last season.
