Malik Monk was named SEC Freshman of the Year by league coaches on Tuesday afternoon.

Monk led the SEC in scoring this season (21.2 PPG) and is top 20 nationally in the country in points per game. Monk scored in double figures in every game this season except for one and had 17 games of 20 points or more. Furthermore, Monk is the only freshman in Kentucky basketball history to compile four 30-point games.

He was also selected to the All-SEC First team alongside point guard De’Aaron Fox. Bam Adebayo was named to the second team. All three were named to the All-SEC Freshmen Team as well. Kentucky is the only school to have three players on All-SEC teams.

Monk becomes the eighth Kentucky player to win SEC Freshman of the Year and the seventh under John Calipari.

Calipari has coached 21 players who have earned All-SEC accolades.
