LEXINGTON — On Monday, the Lexington Center Corporation Board of Directors unanimously approved a $15 million technology overhaul of Rupp Arena.
The upgrades will be executed in stages over the next 18 months. Plans include a center-hung audio, HD video, and scoreboard array, wireless internet for fans, and major roof structure improvements. These improvements will be completed in time for the 2016-2017 basketball season and will be financed through the sale of bonds.
Also in the works is new video production equipment to upgrade the existing system to HD. The existing four corner video screens will be replaced with widescreen HD LED units. These upgrades will be completed by December. The LED unit on the scorer’s table will also be upgraded this season.
Improvements to the roof structure will allow Rupp Arena to host more elaborate concerts and other events that require the suspension of heavy equipment from the ceiling. Other improvements in the next 12 months will include new lobby video displays and exterior LED marquis signs.
These improvements are in addition to previously approved installations of LED ribbon boards and an additional press box on the east side upper arena.
