BREAKING: Calipari adamantly denies Sacramento Kings rumors

SACRAMENTO, CA — After the Sacramento Kings drafted Willie Cauley-Stein with the No. 6 overall pick of the 2015 NBA Draft on Thursday night, it seemed like it would only be a matter of time.

Less than a week later, the John-Calipari-to-NBA rumors have resurfaced — again.

According to a Tuesday report from Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports, Sacramento Kings ownership is probing the Kentucky basketball coach’s interest in taking over the franchise’s front-office and head coaching jobs.

Wojnarowski writes that owner Vivek Ranadive and other members of the Kings’ ownership group have been communicating with Calipari in recent weeks, proposing multiple scenarios that would give him control of Sacramento’s struggling basketball operations along with its head coaching position.

No formal offer has been made to Calipari, and Yahoo’s sources say Kings ownership understands it will need to offer upwards of $10 million annually to get the Naismith Hall of Famer to seriously consider leaving his Lexington home.

The report created immediate buzz online, especially when considering the Kings are already at odds with current head coach George Karl after his relentless attempts to try and trade its mercurial franchise player — and former Calipari pupil at Kentucky — DeMarcus Cousins before last Thursday’s NBA Draft.

But Calipari wasted no time in personally responding to the rumors mere minutes after they broke, once again claiming his complete dedication to the University of Kentucky.

The UK Athletics department released a similar statement from Calipari on Tuesday morning as well.
