Pro Cats Update: 2013 NFL Week 1

Randall Cobb was the big star of Week 1. The former Wildcat (08-10) gained a combined 114 yards for the Green Bay Packers and scored a rushing touchdown. Danny Trevathan impressed in his first regular season start for the Denver Broncos. Trevathan (08-11) intercepted a pass for 29 yards and would’ve had a touchdown except for a slight miscalculation. The former Cat dropped the ball just short of the goal line, effectively fumbling the ball into the end zone and giving the reigning Super Bowl champion Baltimore Ravens the ball back at the 20-yard line. If Trevathan had scored that touchdown, the Broncos would have scored the most points in franchise history and scored 50 points in a game for only second time in franchise history. It also would have been Trevathan first NFL touchdown. Despite the blunder, Trevethan will get a shot at redemption, most likely starting this Sunday against the New York Giants.
The one other Wildcat to highlight this week is Larry Warford. Because offensive line statistics are not easily found, we will have a special Warford Watch each week to keep up with the newest NFL Cat. In his first regular season NFL game against the Minnesota Vikings, Warford protected his QB Matt Stafford extremely well. According to Pro Football Focus, Warford did not allow a sack, a hit, or even a hurry by the Minnesota defense of Stafford. The website grades each player, and of the interior offensive linemen, Warford blew his teammates away, scoring a +2.9 compared to Rob Sims’s +0.9 and Dominic Raiola’s +0.6. In fact, Warford was the fourth highest graded player on the Detroit Lions roster, behind only Stafford and two running backs.
