Position Preview: Special Teams ready to control field position

08/12/2016 08:00 PM

Our final position preview takes a look at the special teams, a group that has been the achilles heel for Mark Stoops since he arrived in Lexington. The arrival of new inside linebacker/special teams coach Matt House has coaches and players extremely optimistic for the special teams unit, which will be led by a healthy Austin MacGinnis.

MacGinnis is coming off of an injury-riddled season, where he hit 13 of 17 field goals, but was inconsistent on kickoffs. Junior Wide Receiver Charles Walker is looking to have a bigger role in the return game this year. Last year, Walker was second on the team with six special teams tackles and returned three punts for an average of 7.3 yards per return. MacGinnis and Walker both see special teams being a key part of UK’s success this season.
