Kentucky freshman forward PJ Washington has been named to the preseason watch list for the Karl Malone Award, which is presented to the nation’s best power forward in the country. Washington is one of 21 candidates to make the list.

The list of 21 players will be narrowed to 10 in mid-February. Five finalists will be named in March and then the winner will be selected on April 6.

Washington was a five-star prospect in high school and was rated as high as No. 12 overall in the class of 2017 by ESPN. He played for Team USA and John Calipari in the 2017 FIBA U19 World Cup.

Washington is hoping to become the first winner of the Malone Award in school history.

Three Wildcats have now been named to preseason award watch lists. Hamidou Diallo was named to the preseason watch list for the Jerry West Award on Tuesday and Kevin Knox was named to the Julius Erving Award watch list on Wednesday.
