In a season that has amounted to an endless quest to play two consistent halves of basketball, the Kentucky Wildcats took a step forward Wednesday night in an 86-67 win over Fort Wayne at Rupp Arena.

While Kentucky certainly had their struggles in the first half, particularly when it came to defending Fort Wayne’s three-point shooting, the first twenty minutes still evened out to a fairly solid showing from the Cats. Kentucky entered the break with a 45-37 lead, thanks to strong defense in the final minutes, which led to efficient offensive possessions. That set the tone for the second half, where Kentucky mostly cruised.

For the game, the Cats shot 60% from the field, 45% from three and dominated the glass (44-21). Freshman big man Nick Richards was the star of the game, finishing with 25 points and 15 rebounds, both of which were career highs. Quade Green, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Kevin Knox all scored 11 points, while sophomore forward Wenyen Gabriel finished with 9 points and 10 rebounds.

Kentucky returns to the court Sunday at home against Illinois-Chicago at 6pm.
