Nick Richards has committed to Kentucky. The five-star center from Queens, New York becomes Coach Calipari’s first pickup in the 2017 class.

Richards is the 17th overall prospect in Scout.com’s 2017 rankings. He’s the seventh best center in the class. Richards stands tall at 6’11” with a 7’3” wingspan and weighs 230 pounds.

Scout.com’s Evan Daniels thinks Kentucky has found their next star big man.

“Kentucky is getting a big time prospect in Nick Richards,” said Daniels. “He’s pushing seven feet tall. He’s strong, he’s physical, he’s aggressive. He carves out space inside. I like how hard he plays. I like the energy and effort that he brings to the court and I think he can really impact things with his rebounding. I think he can impact things with his rim protection and that’s a kid that looks to dunk every ball every time he gets it in the paint.”

Richards chose the Wildcats over Arizona and Syracuse. He visited the Wildcats twice in the last few weeks and never visited Arizona or Syracuse.
