Ashely Lowery Doing Better
UK football player Ashely Lowery is a very lucky man. Less than two days after a brutal car accident, Lowery is sitting up and speaking to relatives.
The UK safety crashed his car at 4 a-m on Saturday. Lowery was ejected from the car and thrown 100 feet from the vehicle. He had no broken bones, no internal injuries, and no head trauma.
Yesterday, doctors removed a breathing tube and lifted his sedation. Today, Lowery is supposed to be moved from the I-C-U to a regular hospital room and start walking.
When he first woke up, Lowery reportedly asked “Am I still pretty?”
Family friend and spokesman Doug Stutsman said they believe Lowery might have been saved because he was NOT wearing a seat belt and was ejected.
Earlier today, KSTV talked to Stutsman about Lowery’s condition and all the support from teammates and fans.
Mark Stoops and the Lowery family released statements about Lowery. Read the full statements here.
Barker Not Feeling The Love From Previous UK Staff
Drew Barker is announcing his college decision this Friday afternoon, and the two schools that seem to vying for the 2014 quarterback are South Carolina and Kentucky.
But UK wasn’t always on Barker’s radar. Early last summer, Barker attended football camp at Kentucky, and afterward followed up with the coaches.
He told Mike Fields of the Herald-Leader, “When I talked to [the previous coaching staff], they said, ‘So, have you been to any camps recently?’ I said, ‘Oh man, I was just at your camp and you didn’t even know I was there!’ It was kind of funny, but that’s when I cut it off. I was done with UK.” Read the full article here.
Now the tables have turned, and Mark Stoops made Kentucky a serious contender.
KSTV On The Kentucky Derby Red Carpet
On Saturday, I attended my first-ever Kentucky Derby and got to work the red carpet interviewing celebrities, including Scottie Pippen, Mark Stoops, and Nerlens Noel. Pippen seems like a secret UK fan, Stoops hinted at big commitments coming, and Nerlens brought a young leukemia patient with him as his guest. Not a bad way to spend my first Derby.
Randall Cobb On UK Football, Mark Stoops
Former UK wide receiver Randall Cobb was back in town for the Kentucky Derby. Thomas Beisner caught up with him at the Barnstable Brown party. Of course, he had to ask him about Mark Stoops and his advice for the UK football players dealing with a coaching change.
KSTV With Celebrities At Barnstable Brown
Also at the Barnstable Brown party, Thomas Beisner ran into many more celebrities. Here are the highlights from their interviews about the Derby and about UK basketball.
